Tanna is an fascinating island in southern Vanuatu where you can find erupting Yasur volcano, a cargo cult, steep forested hills, and white sandy beaches.
In 1774 Cook landed on Tanna after lured by the eruptions of Yasur volcano. Yasur volcano has been in regular eruption for hundreds of years. Traditional culture is strong on Tanna island.
It is possible to see village life little affected by outside influences.
The interior of Tanna is fertile from Yasur ashfall. On the south east of the island are rugged hills (Mt Melen, and Mt Tukosmera).
