Banks Islands, Torba Province


Mota Lava Island is the third largest in the Banks Islands, and has an area of 33 sq km. The island is elongated in a NE-SW axis which corresponds to the central spine of deeply eroded volcanoes.

There are two traditional languages spoken on Mota Lava Island. Volow has one remaining speaker. Mwotlap has 1800 speakers combined with Vanua Lava Island.
