Efate Island, Vanuatu - John Seach
Shefa Province

Efate Island is the third largest in Vanuatu and is the location of the capital of Vanuatu, Port Vila. Port Vila is situated on a deep water bay.

The town is one of the most picturesque in the south Pacific. Vila is noted for excellent dining, and duty free shopping. Efate is mainly low around the coast and rugged in the interior. The highest point is Mt MacDonald 647m. The coastline is rocky and surrounded by fringing reef. There are a few good beaches.

Snorkeling and diving is concentrated in Mele Bay. Efate was created by volcanic activity. Low level geothermal activity remains in some areas. Climate is dominated by SE trade winds from May to November.
